And not only did that extend the WBC minimumweight title he has held since 2014, it brought him level with the legendary American.

Wanheng said: “I thought it would be tougher. He is young and fast. But he lost guard early and I took the opportunity. It was easy from then on.

“I was never confident that I was winning as it was a 12-round fight.

“Now I’m happy that I have matched Mayweather’s record.”

Wanheng admits that he never thought about 51 straight fights at the start of his career.

However, having now moved level with Mayweather, he is determined to keep training hard for the next one.

Mayweather, a five-division champion considered widely as the best boxer of his generation, retired in August after stopping Conor McGregor in the 10th-round of their 12-round junior middleweight clash.

That triumph elevated Mayweather above heavyweight icon Rocky Marciano, who had a 49-0 record, in the history books.

The all-time record for most wins without defeat is held by Mexican flyweight Ricardo Lopez.

He retired with an almost perfect record of 51-0-1 - the one drawn contest the only blemish on another superb career.
