What’s it about?

The Good Karma Hospital is an ITV medical drama series set in tropical South India.

The series tells the story of junior doctor Ruby Walker (played by Amrita Acharia) who arrives in India looking for a job - as well as a distraction from her heartbreak.

She expects sunshine, palm trees and picture-perfect beaches and has prepared herself for the sacred cows, the tuk-tuks and the ‘Delhibelly’ – but she wasn’t expecting the tough reality of working at under-resourced and over-worked cottage hospital.

Run by an eccentric Englishwoman – Doctor Lydia Fonseca (played by Amanda Redman) - the Good Karma Hospital is the beating heart of the local community.

The hospital is held together by a hand-picked team of British and Indian medics, and refuses to turn anyone away - locals, ex-pats and tourists are all welcomed through its doors.

The series is set to mix the heartbreaking with the humorous, and the doctors, nurses and patients find that the Good Karma Hospital is more than just a rundown medical outpost - it’s a home.
