US Open commentators forced to apologise after Robert MacIntyre’s ‘Scottish’ language after X-rated blast live on TV

Things went downhill for the star after his foul-mouthed slip

COMMENTATORS were forced to apologise after Robert MacIntyre's x-rated outburst at the US Open.

The Scot let his frustrations get the better of him after mishitting his approach shot on the third at Pinehurst this morning.

MacIntyre came into the second day of the US Open some five shots off the lead having carded a level par round yesterday.

And things got off to a similar start this morning as he parred the first two holes to keep himself steady.

However, everything seemed to take a turn on the par-four third after MacIntyre drove his ball into the fairway.

The Canadian Open champ took aim for the green on his approach shot and ended up chunking his effort.

The uncharacteristically poor shot landed right in the bunker at the front of the putting surface.

MacIntyre was certainly frustrated with his effort and pleaded with his ball to get a favourable lie as it flew through the air and into the sand.

The 27-year-old could be heard saying: "F*** sake! Don't plug!".

Sky Sports commentator Andrew Coltart swiftly apologised to viewers for the foul language before cheekily giving a potential reason for the colourful blast.

Coltart, who is a Scot himself, suggested it was McIntyre's Scottish heritage that led to him choosing such words - labelling the outburst as "West coast of Scotland language".

Fortunately for MacIntyre, his ball didn't plug too badly in the sand and he was able to get an up-and-down for par to keep himself level.

However his round deteriorated after that with the Ryder Cup star carding four bogeys in his next six holes, putting him in danger of missing the cut.
