SHANE Lowry decided to skip this week's Genesis Scottish Open as he's taken a different route of preparation ahead of the 2024 Open. Championship.

The Offaly star decided to sit out the PGA Tour and DP World Tour co-sanctioned event as he prepares for the final major of the season.

Royal Troon will host the 152nd Open Championship next week in South Ayrshire, Scotland.

And the Irish star has been quietly going about his business in preparation for the title that he won in 2019.

Just last week the Irishman spent two days at the venue for this year's Open as he was one of the first players to get a couple of practice rounds in at Royal Troon.

Since then the Irishman made a quick trip down to catch up with some Ryder Cup pals at Wimbledon Tennis Championships before heading back to Ireland to complete his preparation.

The Emerald Isle has some of the best links courses on the planet, and the popular Irish star utilised home turf as he headed to County Kerry.

In March, the world number 31 spoke about the quality of courses in The Kingdom County as he pin-pointed two tracks on The Smylie show with former PGA Tour, and current commentator Smylie Kauffman.

37-year-old Lowry recently joined Hogs Head in Waterville, and that's where he headed to put the final touches on his skill-set ahead of his trip to Scotland.

Taking to social media, the Irishman shared a snap of the stunning links course along with a caption.

It read: "God's country."

Clara ace Lowry is amongst the favourites to win the title at 33/1 after finding solid form of the PGA Tour this season.

His FedEx Cup standing is the best in his career at this stage in the season heading into the playoffs.

Lowry has five top-10s this season and one win at The Zurich Classic with Rory McIlroy as he lie 12th on the points ladder.

The Irishman has a busy summer schedule with the Olympic Games golf tournament also on the radar at La Golf National in August.
