COLDPLAY paid tribute to a host of Irish musical legends during their first sold-out night in Dublin's Croke Park.

The band performs a highly-aniticpated four night sold-out stint at Croke Park for their Music of the Sphere's World Tour.

The iconic band performed to a capacity crowd on Thursday night singing their greatest hits and newest singles.

Frontman Chris Martin greeted the crowd with a cúpla focal and shared his delight at performing at the iconic venue.

Martin said: "Céad mile fáilte go Croke Pairc.

"Tá áthas orainn anseo i Croke Pairc."

Chris Martin dedicated a performance to Irish musical legends Sinead O'Connor, Dolores O'Riordan and Shane MacGowan.

He called performing at Croke Park "a privilege," after the band took to X before the gig to share their excitement.

They wrote: "What a pleasure to be back in Baile Átha Cliath.

"Four shows in the temple of the GAA in front of 82,000 Dubliners in full voice is the perfect way to finish this leg of the tour."

The frontman told last night's crowd: "We played 160 shows before today and I thought I was experienced but I really don't know how to handle a crowd this wonderful."

Fans headed to the concert in the coming days have been issued a major warning.

As excited concert-goers make their way to Croke Park, transport bosses have issued a warning over the capacity on the Luas.

A post on the official Luas Twitter page has written: "Please be advised that all Luas Park and Rides are now at full capacity. We apologise for any inconvenience caused".

A second tweet added: "Passengers, please be advised Red Line services are operating with delays due to a non Luas related incident at Museum.

"All Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus for the duration of this disruption. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."

Any fans who had opted to use the Luas services to attend the gig must be aware of other transport options.

This includes DART services and Dublin Buses which will be running until 12am tonight.

Drumcondra Station is a five minute walk from the stadium and located on the Maynooth, Grand Canal Dock, Longford and Sligo routes.

Both Connolly and Clontarf stations are less than a 30 minute walk from Croke Park

The British band touched down in the Irish capital on Wednesday morning ahead of their four highly-anticipated sold-out nights at Croke Park.

Excited concert goers heading to the first show tonight can expect gates to be open from 5pm, with the first support act, Aby Coulibaly, taking to the stage at 6.30pm.

Second support act, Maggie Rogers will then hit the stage at 7.15 with Coldplay expected to perform from 8.30pm.

There are multiple entry points to the stadium and you must follow whichever colour route is stated on your ticket.

Concert chiefs have urged that fans should aim to arrive at Croke Park at least 45 minutes before the gig starts.
