A new biopic about Anthony Bourdain may have found its leading man.
Actor Dominic Sessa is in talks to play the late celebrity chef in the highly anticipated project, per Deadline.
Since Bourdain died by suicide in June 2018, his successful career has been the subject of a documentary called “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain” and an unauthorized biography titled “Down and Out in Paradise: The Life of Anthony Bourdain.”
Following the release of the documentary, Bourdain’s widow Ottavia Busia-Bourdain commented on the project, saying she had not approved the use of AI technology to recreate her late husband’s voice at several points throughout the documentary.
As anticipation for the upcoming biopic about Bourdain’s life grows, here’s everything we know about the project so far.
When will the biopic be released?
So far, there aren’t many details available about a release date or subject matter for the project. The biopic, aptly named “Tony,” is currently in development with the production company Star Thrower Entertainment.
Per Deadline, entertainment company A24 is also considering joining the project, and the following people have signed on:

- Producers: Tim and Trevor White and Matt Miller
- Director: Matt Johnson
- Script writers: Lou Howe and Todd Bartels
Sessa also seemed to confirm his involvement in the biopic when he posted an article from The Hollywood Reporter in his Instagram story on Aug. 13.
Given Sessa’s age (21), it’s possible that the actor will will portray the early days of Bourdain’s career as a chef. With the magic of makeup, the rising star could also play Bourdain in the thick of his successful career, especially his time hosting several TV shows, including “A Cook’s Tour,” “No Reservations” and “Parts Unknown.”
Who is Dominic Sessa?
Sessa is a 21-year-old actor who gained critical acclaim for his role in the 2023 film “The Holdovers.” The same year, Variety named Sessa one of its “10 Actors to Watch.”
Per his IMDB page, Sessa will also star in three upcoming projects, including “Now You See Me 3,” “Oh. What. Fun.” and “Tow.”
