50% increase in Amex merchant fees - Greed+

Amex has jacked up their merchant fees by 50% and now charging over 3% while Qantas frequent flyer points remain at only 1.25 points per dollar. No more value. Amex is getting greedy.

Promises Promises

I closed the account because of unauthorized debit. Had 100k points and was promised $400 David Jones shopping vouchers 4 weeks ago. No such luck and no way to talk to anyone.
A useless money orientated company. No integrity or customer service.

Going down hill

Going down hill, rapidly. I used to be a huge AMEX fan, but not anymore. Not only are less and less places taking it, they are telling me because of my credit score (which is 899 out of 1000) I am not eligible to take part in the referral scheme, meaning I am missing out on lots of points. WHY can they pick and choose who can benefit from this scheme.

The Worst Credit Card and Worst…

The Worst Credit Card and Worst Customer Service
DITCH AMEX
I found American express not to defend Fraud when your card has been charged wrongly
My Card was charged wrongly and the company promised to refund the credit back to my account. But to my dismay American Express is not making any effort to ensure that this money is back to my Account . Even though I submitted all the proof and evidence they asked for and they could see where this company promised to refund. Nothing whatsoever has been done to assist. The Charge is sitting on my account and they are telling me they cant do anything but just wait because the other Company is also their customer.
I found this unbelievable .
Also Amex customer service is very very poor than it used to be.

How can American Express tell me I…

How can American Express tell me I can’t cancel a gift card 10 minutes after placing the order? I wanted two day fed ex shipping and checked the correct box telling me it was $17.50 for expedited shipping. I got usps shipping, 5-7 business days and no tracking. I called immediately and they tell me they won’t cancel? This is VERY SHADY business practices.

Lost wire $51K - Nightmare with Amex

I’ve been a loyal American Express Platinum cardholder for 18 years, relying on the card for significant business transactions and automatic payments with over 30 vendors. However, a recent issue with a $51,000 wire transfer has left my business in distress, and American Express’s customer service has been unable to resolve it despite numerous attempts.

On June 28th, I wired $51,000 to American Express to pay my account balance in full and on time. I called American Express to obtain the correct wiring instructions, but I was given incorrect information by a customer service representative. As a result, the funds were received by American Express but were deposited into a different bank account, not applied to my card balance.

After noticing the issue, I called to report it on July 2nd and was instructed to file a case. When the problem went unresolved, I was told to file another case. The funds were "lost," and it wasn't until my third call that I refused to end the call until the issue was escalated. Finally, after being on hold for 90 minutes on July 18th, a supervisor in the wire department found the funds and assured me they would be transferred to my card balance within 48 hours.

Unfortunately, this did not happen. My card was frozen due to the past due balance, causing a cascade of disruptions as all charges were declined. I was forced to contact each of my vendors to update payment information, leading to significant operational challenges.

After the funds were not credited to my account within 48 hours, I was informed they would instead be sent back to my bank. However, despite calling every day since July 24th and escalating to supervisor levels, the funds have not been returned. Each supervisor has provided conflicting information, and as of August 5th, my funds are still unaccounted for, and my business is under significant financial strain.

I have spent over 12 hours on the phone attempting to resolve this, yet there is no resolution in sight.

If this is the idea of a premium…

If this is the idea of a premium service...
Their online services regularly don't work, links lead nowhere, partnership programs don't work, no feedback. No chat support...Amex user experience has become annoying and frustrating and not worth my time.

Poor and Declining Service

Having been a Platinum Cardholder for 28 service, I have sadly witnessed the decline in the Travel & Lifestyle Service to the point that I really question its value. Could anyone help and advise me what you have to do to get them to respond to calls and honour promised callbacks. Sadly, it is no longer possible to email Amex either.

AMEX? No thanks

Sign up for a basic card to check what the AMEX experience was and it was terrible, at least compared to my expectations of an amazing customer service. Problems started when I tried to change to a new IBAN for the expenses and the process turned out to be really bad. Copy-paste emails asking for the same documentation over and over again, despite I sent back the info I kept getting those emails and the IBAN was not updated. Never a call from them, just kept receiving emails. Also the card stopped working for a while. If this is the AMEX experience then no thanks, card cancelled.

****CLOSED ACCOUNT***** DUE TO HIDDEN…

****CLOSED ACCOUNT***** DUE TO HIDDEN YEARLY FEES. I honestly never knew because of course we normally carry a balance. I only figured it out due to paying it off and did not charge any longer. I received a bill and knew I had not purchased anything in this card, only to finally find out about the hidden fee. So when I called to find out who charged on my account they tell me this. Well of course I’m not going to pay it or keep the card open so I close to avoid the charge but they still charge me even after closing the account and will not remove the charge now, even though it’s closed. Now how about that for customer appreciation and service. I’ve had to sit on the phone several times for longer than I should to handle and deal with the issue and the charge is still there. This is how they repay you choosing them to do business with the last 7 years. Never again American Express!

American Express Don't Help Customers deal with Fraudsters

I was scammed by a travel company called Travel Junction, also known as Travel Performance, that pretended to be Virgin Airways and I lost £850. After experiencing the problem I checked Trustpilot and found that lots of other people had also been scammed. I have provided full details to American Express, including confirmation from Virgin Atlantic that no tickets were ever reserved in my name, but after 7 months of raising disputes I still haven't had any money back. I can see from Trustpilot reviewers that some banks have helped their customers. So if you want support from your credit card provider DONT USE AMERICAN EXPRESS

Travel Junction asked me for more information some months ago and I provided the booking reference and contact details as requested but they have not contacted me. They have now asked for this information again and I have again provided it. I have also started a complaint with the ombudsman.

AMEX not accepted in most of Italy

AMEX has the best phone app and when accepted it works great. The problem is Amex.it - or rather the fact that 80% of the times I pull out my gold card in Italy it is not accepted.
“Troppe commissioni” I am told. This can work to your advantage, like when I bought jewelry to my wife. I only have 1300 eur in my pocket - so i have to pay with amex. The price was 1500 but the shop was much more interested in 1300 cash. Likely a combination of fees and creative book-keeping at his end.
I have heard rumors that Amex are lowering their fees in Italy but it will take time to get much momentum.
Large chains do however accept it - so if you are happy eating at McDonalds …

DO NOT TRUST AMERICAN EXPRESS TO BE FAIR/HONEST

AMEX probably won’t respond to my review, but my purpose is to let people who are with AMEX cards or consider applying for one of them. Background info: I have been a member since 1979 yes, 45 YEARS! In that time I have held a Basic card, a Gold Card, and more recently a Blue Cash Magnet card. My current card started with a credit line of $15,000. I had that credit line for 2-3 years until July 1 2023 when they abruptly dropped my C/L to $2,100 (from $15k). They sent me a letter 10 days later after the change. The letter contained the same old reasons that basically stated “your credit score dropped about 30 points so we don’t TRUST you anymore. I will add context at this point in all the years I have been with AMEX I have NEVER missed a payment, never been late with a payment, never got even close to my Credit Limit. How many people can say that for 45 years? My balance at that time was about $1800 so they set my limit so I had no real room to charge anything. After 2 calls with credit reps I could see there was no reasoning with them. They were using my score and ONLY my score to hurt me. By that I mean once that C/L DECREASE hit the 2 credit bureaus that I have monitoring with my score took another big hit. My decision was to pay them off so I did not have to pay them more interest. I went to my Credit Union and withdrew the amount of the balance and paid them off 2 weeks later. The card sat dormant for the next several months. In November I had major surgery and could not work for 8 weeks. My bills were all paid but I did have to use some of my other cards for medical bills to get by. Then on April 2, 2024 I was advised by AMEX that due to the same reasons they used 9 months before they were once again cutting my credit line. This time from $2100 down to $1000. Then their letter went even further and stated that they “might not” approve any charges if they chose not to??? I still had a ZERO balance so what were they scared of?? I do not expect AMEX to reply to my complaint because they don’t care. 45 year record of being an excellent customer means nothing to them if your credit score drops 30-40 points due to legitimate reasons. My point of all this is to be sure that people know what can happen to them if they let their score slip. AMEX DOES NOT CARE if you pay on time for ANY amount of time if you don’t meet their guidelines for any kind of risk. I convinced my adult son and daughter to drop AMEX and some of my friends and business associates also stated they would no longer trust them!
The funny part (NOT really funny) is that for over a year AMEX kept sending me pre approved offers to get their Platinum Card. At a annual fee of over $600!!! Beware of AMEX and how they may treat you!!!
For Reference my card ended in 61001
