Game 89: Astros at Twins

A “move on” game if I’ve ever seen one.

MLB: Houston Astros at Minnesota Twins Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports

First Pitch: 1:10 pm CDT

TV: Bally Sports North / ~ / Radio: TIBN

Are we all in agreement to just move on from that?

Well, maybe not all of it. After all, Jose Miranda will have a chance for a hit in his 11th straight at-bat this afternoon. And Carlos Correa is now running an OPS+ of 150, and added his 11th homer and 45th RBI with a grand slam off Josh Hader last night.

What’s that?

Pitching highlights.

Well... maybe today.

The Twins managed to win their road series with Houston this year, and a decent outing from Joe Ryan would do wonders in guaranteeing at least a split on the season series between Minnesota and one of the American League’s other playoff hopefuls.

As it stands shortly before the break, the Twins are in possession of the second Wild Card (they’d play the Yankees, of course) with the Boston Red Sox in the #3 spot; the Kansas City Royals are 1.5 back, and the Houston Astros 2.5, although they’re right behind the Seattle Mariners for the division itself.

Also, if anybody thought Houston’s slow start was the bottom falling out of a dynasty that’s played in 7 consecutive American League Championship Series, then lolololol.

Anyway - Ryan was responsible for the Twins’ only loss in Houston a few weeks ago; you may remember the outing for his four homers allowed in five innings. There may yet be a different plan of attack today.

Byron Buxton continues his streak of not having DH’d in a game since May 22nd. As mentioned, all eyes will be on Miranda’s first at-bat to see if an unbelievable tear can continue. And Brooks Lee takes his first crack at big-league DH’ing, hitting ninth behind Ryan Jeffers.

GO TWINS GO!
