UC professor to work with Team USA at the Paralympics

When Team USA battles for gold in wheelchair rugby at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, a University of Cincinnati assistant professor will be with the team as a physical therapist and athletic trainer. MeMe Earnest-Stanley, who earned a doctorate degree in physical therapy from UC and teaches in the College of Allied Health Sciences, will leave for Paris with Team USA on Aug. 20. She’s worked with the team since December 2020, but this will be her first Paralympic experience.

'Better Together' the theme for this year's St. Vincent de Paul...

For almost two decades, the University of Cincinnati School of Design and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) have collaborated on an annual fashion show, called “RetroFittings” — a runway show where UC fashion design majors craft garments solely from pre-loved items they selected from SVDP thrift stores with a meager stipend. The 2024 show takes place Oct. 24 at Music Hall.

UC computer science engineer works to improve AI explainability

Inspired by the desire to improve and advance the world of artificial intelligence, Nkechi Jennifer Akinwale has taken advantage of every available opportunity at the University of Cincinnati. Along with a dedication to her field, Akinwale has a deep-rooted dedication to the mentorship of young girls in STEM. She has mentored numerous undergraduate and K-12 students in various programs to share her knowledge and experience as a PhD student. Recently, she was named Graduate Student Engineer of the Month by the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

UC student aims to make AI more explainable, trustworthy

Artificial intelligence systems have quickly advanced and can answer just about any question, but how they come to their decisions often isn't understood, even by the people who create the AI. Lynn Pickering, a University of Cincinnati alumna who is working on her PhD at UC, wants to make sure AI is used safely and responsibly. She wants people to be able to review how AI models come to their answers and ensure humans have opportunities to make final decisions, not the machines.

Lindner professor recognized as a Fulbright Scholar

Charles Appeadu, PhD, associate professor-educator of finance at the Carl H. Lindner College of Business, was recently recognized with a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award in finance to Ghana for the 2024-2025 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
