USNA Physics

Mission

The mission of the Physics Department is to develop midshipmen's technical, mathematical, and reasoning proficiency for unique problem solving skills in the fleet and beyond. Our department fosters midshipmen's learning and critical thinking skills through various teaching methods that support an array of learning styles. Through our program, the midshipmen have the opportunity to learn both inside of the classroom and through researching physics in unique laboratory settings.

About Our Department

Our department is made up of military instructors and civilian professors that are dedicated to the education of approximately 100 majors and 1100 core physics students. We have four unique physics tracks that allow optional specializations in Astrophysics and Applied Physics. All tracks allow for midshipmen to develop their critical thinking skills through a variety of courses to allow the midshipmen to choose a more personalized plan of study including the option to have a research project.
