This is a number Heaney has been less than in 19 of his 23 starts this season. In his four misses, he's had walk totals of 3 (Astros), 3 (Mariners), 3 (Orioles), and 4 (Astros). Still, I get why this number is at 2.5 walks given the Yankees have the highest walk rate in the majors at 10.6%, so they have been the most patient team.
Heaney has taken a jump this season in cutting down his walk rate to 6.5%, half a point lower than his career 7.0% walk rate. He's averaging 2.5 walks per 9 innings, and Heaney almost never goes deep into games (he hasn't surpassed 6 innings in any of his last six starts), and he has only one start all season in which he reached 100 pitches. This is spot where I'm going to trust Heaney despite the tough matchup on paper and hope he can continue to pound the strike zone on Sunday.
This line is far too low considering the matchup and how well Bassitt has been playing lately. Bassitt has 6+ strikeouts in 4 of the last 5 starts and 8 of the last 12. He draws a matchup vs. Oakland, a team ranking 3rd in the league in strikeouts, sitting at 25.4% on the season, and the lineup will likely have 5 players with a 26% strikeout rate. I have Bassitt projected for nearly a full strikeout over this number, making this a great EV bet.
