9 Humidity-Busting Hair Buys That Actually Work

If you’re someone with hair, you’ll know that when humidity rises, the streets are certainly not the place to go – The Weather Girls were wrong about that bit. Your best bet is to head straight to the frizz-fighting hair product aisle in your local pharmacy. During those times when there’s a little too much moisture hanging around in the air, most of us are either forced to contend with a halo of frizz or fluff atop our hair, or it falls completely flat and shapeless.

Frizz occurs when moisture interferes with the bonds in each of our strands, which essentially causes a rough cuticle – cue frizz and a dull finish. This effect is only heightened when hair is already dry or dehydrated, because it absorbs more moisture from the air than properly hydrated hair, which creates more of an issue. Of course, frizz isn’t all bad, but there are some great formulas on the market that can help fend off humidity and keep your hair bouncy, shiny and manageable.

But before we get into them, a few humidity hair hacks: firstly, always ensure you squeeze water out of the hair after you’ve washed it, rather than rubbing it dry. This is best done using a microfibre towel, which is gentler on the hair cuticle as well as being super absorbent. Silk pillowcases can also help as they prevent friction on the hair, and it’s also a good idea to minimise heat styling where possible – although, as many of us know, sometimes you need the heat to get your hair where you want it to be.

Beyond that, look to these hair wonders to help beat humidity before it takes hold:
