The Fashion Awards 2023 completed its mission to “amplify leaders of change, celebrate excellence in creativity and support the next generation of creative talent”, as the British Fashion Council rolled out the red carpet at the Royal Albert Hall on 4 December. Among the best dressed? Alexa Chung, who channelled her inner Joan of Arc in 16Arlington; Simone Ashley in nearly-naked Valentino; Suki Waterhouse wearing a high-street hero; Lila Moss modelling a Nensi Dojaka dress inspired by her mum; and Anne Hathaway channelling spaghetti-chic via Valentino’s archive.

With Maya Jama and Kojey Radical co-presenting and Law Roach on red-carpet commentary, London feted the industry’s brightest stars, including Vogue’s own Edward Enninful, who took home the Trailblazer Award wearing Phoebe Philo’s first menswear for her eponymous brand. Valentino Garavani received the Outstanding Achievement Award, while Charlotte Tilbury and Sarah Burton were both honoured with Special Recognition Awards.

The line-up for the Model of the Year Award was the most diverse it’s ever been, with Paloma Elsesser pipping Alton Mason, Anok Yai, Kai-Isaiah Jamal, Liu Wen and Mona Tougaard to the post, while Michaela Coel took home the Pandora Leader of Change Award.

Amidst all the glitz and glamour, it’s worth remembering that The Fashion Awards raises funds for the BFC Foundation, which nurtures designers at all levels of their career through its talent, education, grant giving and business mentoring pillars. Last year, The Fashion Awards raised over £1.3 million which was distributed to the industry’s most promising talent – a valuable sum considering many rising stars are grappling with Britain’s precarious financial situation – and this year looks to be just as fruitful thanks to sponsors, such as Pandora.
