The Crown superfans, rejoice: Season six of the hit Netflix series makes its grand debut this week, airing on November 16th. In anticipation, the official season premiere was held in Los Angeles last night, and cast members such as Jonathan Pryce (Prince Philip) and Elizabeth Debicki (Princess Diana) were in attendance for the affair. And call it method dressing, but Debicki’s chic LBD nodded to one of her screen character’s most famous looks—Princess Diana’s “revenge dress.”

When Princess Diana stepped out at the Serpentine Gallery’s summer party in June 1994, the royal’s black, off-the-shoulder Christina Stambolian mini dress—complete with a pearl and sapphire choker—made headlines across the world. They called it a “revenge dress,” as she wore it the night a television program aired about Prince Charle’s infidelity. It’s one of her most iconic fashion looks to date, and it seems Debicki wanted to pay tribute to it in a subtle way. On the red carpet for The Crown’s premiere, the actor wore a black Bottega Veneta dress from the label’s spring 2024 collection, and the off-the-shoulder bustier construction looked reminiscent of Princess Di’s. Though, Debicki forwent the pearl choker, which would make the look feel too costumey and on-the-nose. She accessorized with Manolo Blahnik BB pumps.

In season five of The Crown, Debicki sports the iconic look in one of the episodes. “When people in my life found out that I was going to play this part, this was the dress that everyone texted me about,” Debicki told Vogue of the famous LBD. Something tells us she’ll get a lot of texts about this latest look, too.
