See Kim Kardashian West Get Fitted for Her Waist-Snatching Met Gala Look

Kim Kardashian is a fan of Thierry Mugler. No, wait, Kim Kardashian West adores Thierry Mugler. “He is the king of camp, he invented camp,” said Kardashian at a recent fitting for her Met Gala dress. As you’ll see in the video above, the reality TV star could not wait to try on the figure-hugging silicon frock, which, fun fact, was the first piece that designer Manfred Thierry Mugler has created in over 20 years for the House. Spun with silk organza and dripping with sparkling crystals, the Mugler number was made to mimic the wet shirtdress that Sophia Loren wore in the 1957 film Boy on a Dolphin. Getting into the waist-whittling look was no small feat. First, Kardashian had to be laced into a corseted bodysuit that was custom-made by Mr. Pearl, widely acknowledged as the world’s foremost corset-maker. “I feel like we can go tighter,” she said direct to camera (the bravery!), before adding this charming aside: “Anna, if I don’t sit down for dinner, now you know why.”

It wasn’t all fashion talk, though. There is a touching moment in which West opens up about her husband and their Met Gala memories as a couple. (If you were wondering why the rapper went to the gala dressed in a Dickies jacket, it was because he wanted his wife to be the star.) “My first Met year I was just his plus-one. I wasn’t really invited yet. This year [Kanye said], ‘I'm just your plus-one. You’re the cover girl and I’m your plus-one, so I’ll just kind of fade out in the background and be your date and let you shine," she said wistfully, "I used to dream about this night." Dream no longer, Kim. You’ve arrived.
