Denim trends tend to stick around for longer than the average clothing fad, which is why when designers explore new shapes and their styling en masse, we take note. On the fall/winter 2024 runways, designers showed denim in a range of silhouettes and washes, from early-aughts throwbacks to modern classics.
At Miu Miu—always one to watch when it comes to trends—a strong case was made for return of the super skinny. At its sister brand, Prada, dark denim was cut into a sleek skirt suit. Chemena Kamali’s smash-hit first show for Chloé showed high-waisted flares worthy of an early-aughts Kate Moss. While Chanel continued to incorporate classic blue washes with their luxe outerwear, Alaïa pioneered another new silhouette: the exaggerated barrel-leg, which the brand styled with fitted tops to balance out the exaggerated proportion.

The best thing about denim is arguably its versatility as a true year-round staple. So whether you’re looking for wearable interpretations of the fall runway collections, or want to push the envelope with new trends, our edit below has ample inspiration for both.
Reimagine a Skirt Suit in Denim
Prada’s dark-wash denim separates make for a tomboy-meets-girlboss version of the classic suit. Lean into this contrast with black slingback kitten heels and an oversized button-up.
Embrace Twisted Classics
Proenza Schouler turned the classic jeans-and-button-up combo on its head by showing painted black jeans with a semi-sheer shirt and statement-making accessories.
Go Full-On Fall
Chanel showed the perfect classic-fall outfit: mid-wash jeans, a brown suede jacket, and slick black boots. Lorelai Gilmore would approve.
Supersize Everything
Amp up the impact of a simple jeans and trench by wearing everything, including your bag, oversized. Red sparkly flats add just the right twist.
Wear Dark Wash for Day-to-Night
Coperni paired dark-wash denim with a black tuxedo jacket for a look that easily transitions from 9 to 9.
Make Skinny Jeans Feel New Again With Loafers and a Ladylike Jacket
Miuccia Prada showed us her take on the Canadian tuxedo, which is cropped on top and skinny on the bottom. A ladylike faux-fur coat makes for the perfect, unexpected touch.
Add Interest to All-Black with Embellishments
All-black really can be everything when you focus on the details. Here, embellished denim takes center stage among classic extras.
Try Unexpected Color Combos
Light brown denim pairs perfectly with bright purple (which, perhaps, is the new red of the season?).
Take the Barrel Leg to New Extremes
Alaïa is staking its claim on the shape of the season: an exaggerated barrel leg that will make a statement even when paired with a simple white sweater.
Go Long… and Wide
Boho is back, and Chloé is leading the charge. Pair super-long, high-waisted flares with platforms and a flowing blouse. A logo belt adds structure and definition.
All Denim Everything
Diesel showed an amped-up take on the Canadian tuxedo for fall. Get the look by mixing distressed denim of all shapes and styles—trousers, top, and denim overcoat—for maximum impact.
