Every year the Met Gala brings together an incredible crowd of fashion designers, models, and the brightest stars of music and film in celebration of the Costume Institute’s latest exhibition. “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” is this year’s show, and it draws from the Costume Institute’s own permanent collection to highlight the multi-sensory experience of wearing clothes. “Fashion is one of the most emotional artistic forms because of its connection to the body,” Andrew Bolton, Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of The Costume Institute, explained in a recent interview. “It is imbued with memory and emotions, and we relate to it very much via our senses. One thing I hope this show will activate is that sensorial appreciation of fashion.”
On the 2024 Met Gala red carpet, it was co-chairs Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth—all of whom can be frequently found on best-dressed lists—that set the tone for the evening. This year’s dress code, “The Garden of Time,” promised a myriad of interpretations, which yielded many looks that surprised and delighted. Another First in Met Gala History
There were a lot of firsts last night at the 2024 Met Gala. From Stray Kids being the first ever K-Pop group to walk the carpet with all of their members to the Met Gala debuts of many young designers like Steve O Smith and Tanner Fletcher. But the last of those major “first” moments happened in the after hours of the Met Gala when The Run Through podcast hosted by Chloe Malle and Chioma Nnadi got access from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to record their Met Gala recap once all the guests had left. Sitting inside Watson library, the hosts were joined by Zac Posen, Da’vine Joy Randolph, and a few Vogue employees (Florence O’Connor, Maya Layne, and myself) to talk about everything that went on inside that the public does not get a glimpse of.
