Facials tools can help de-puff your face and also help in the proper absorption of skincare formulas. From bakuchiol to babassu oil, ever so often, a superhero ingredient in a concoction comes along in the beauty world that can transform your skin. From restoring your glow to erasing lines and reducing the appearance of pores, their benefits are multi-fold and to avail these properly facial tools can be of great help. They are by no means a new trend, despite the sudden surge in their popularity, some of these tools have been a significant part of beauty regimes for centuries, especially in Asian cultures.

"Facial tools are a great way to rejuvenate and de-puff your face and skin at home. They can help relax your facial muscles, drain toxins and blockages, boost blood circulation, activate the lymphatic drainage system, reduce puffiness, contour and lift the face, and stimulate collagen," says Dr. Chiranjiv Chhabra, Dermatologist and Director of Alive Wellness Clinics.

Often made out of precious and semi-precious stones or metals, each tool has its distinct rejuvenation abilities. But with this comes the question of which one to opt for, given the range available. "It depends on your goal. For instance, if you want a glow and a way to lift the skin or even define a certain feature, a gold bar tool can help. If you're looking to sculpt your face, a Gua Sha tool is a better bet," says Chhabra. But she cautions against using any tool sporadically and expecting results. The secret lies in its prolonged use and using them correctly. While Chhabra prefers using her Gua Sha tool daily, she recommends at least 2-3 times a week if this isn't possible. "Think of it as a form of exercise for your skin. Your body benefits from a morning jog as long as you are jogging, but gradually, your body slows down when you stop. It's the same with facial tools. The benefits last only as long as you continue using them," she says.

As for technique, she lists the points to keep in mind: "Massage in upward strokes as you lift the skin, i.e., against gravity to stimulate the lymphatic glands. Always check the tool's surface, as any wear and tear will generate friction. To avoid this, use a serum or oil that is formulated with gentle ingredients specifically meant to address your skin's concern. Remember that your facial skin is fragile, so apply the right amount of pressure while using your tools," she advises.
