Obama Announces North Korea Sanctions in Response to Sony Hack

Typical post–New Year’s Day Friday news dump. Today, President Obama signed an executive order authorizing sanctions against North Korea in response to the rogue nation’s alleged hacking of Sony Pictures Entertainment, the movie studio behind Annie, Fury, and The Equalizer. (Also, The Interview.) The executive order specifically targets “North Korea’s primary intelligence organization,” “North Korea’s primary arms dealer and main exporter of goods and equipment related to ballistic missiles and conventional weapons,” and a North Korean defense firm. Ten government officials will also be affected, though neither the three groups nor the 10 individuals are being identified as the source of the hack. Kim Jong-un’s eyebrows remain unaffected.
