The first presidential debate of 2024 was, at the very least, worrying. As Joe Biden and Donald Trump argued over who of the two was the worst president, the internet had a panic attack over the country’s future. Thankfully, there was a voice of reason lurking on the timeline: Bette Midler, who was livetweeting the whole thing and had a more positive outlook on President Biden’s cold. She started off strong, her first comment once the debates began with disgust: “My God, the way this fucker lies. It’s just astonishing.” Maybe Robert De Niro can join her on the timeline for the next one. In the meantime, here’s the first presidential debate through Midler’s eyes.
