House of the Dragon promos ain’t cheap! But what an immersive experience for Warner Bros. Discovery to tax its subscribers as if we were King’s Landing peasants waiting to see some Targaryens and their dragons fight to the death. Starting today, the cost of Max’s Ad-Free and Ultimate Ad-Free subscription tiers will increase in price for any new subscribers, two weeks ahead of House of the Dragon’s season-two premiere. Existing customers will not be affected just yet; they will be notified 30 days before their next renewal notice, and unless they downgrade to the With Ads plan, the price increase will be reflected in their next billing cycle, which Max says will be “on or after Thursday, July 4, 2024.” Prices for Ad-Free plans will go up a dollar a month to $16.99 while the yearly subscription will increase by $20, making the yearly price $169.99. As for the Ultimate Ad-Free plan, monthly subscriptions will also be raised by a dollar, making for a $20.99 monthly fee while the yearly subscription will be bumped up by $10. The total for the year on that plan will be $209.99. The service last hiked prices 18 months ago when it was still called HBO Max, also going up by a dollar a month at that time. Anything for Westeros, right?
