UTM Sets Soccer Camp Dates

Phil McNamara, the head soccer coach at The University of Tennessee at Martin, has announced his players and staff will conduct a developmental league that will take place every Tuesday night from March 22 through May 10. Registration for the league is next Tuesday, March 15 from 6-7 p.m. at the Martin Recreation Complex soccer fields located beside Westview High School. The league is for U-6 to U-18 boys and girls and will take place between 6 and 8 p.m. with exact times being determined based on numbers following registration. “We are really excited about this opportunity to assist the local soccer community,” McNamara said. “Our players have so much to offer the local soccer players. They have enjoyed the rewards associated with playing soccer the past 10-15 years and it‘s an opportunity to give back to the sport. Nothing beats working with the youth.” The league is similar to the fall recreation league and with Skyhawk soccer personnel overseeing the action, the responsibility is taken off of the parents who volunteered several early Saturday morning hours. There is no charge for players who participated in this past fall league, but new participants are also welcome for a small $10 state insurance payment. Each participant will need to bring their own soccer ball. “I expect our players to gain a lot from the experience,” McNamara said. “It should help our team‘s cohesiveness and encourage players to step up and be leaders. I hope our players can become positive role models for our local soccer players. This league will encourage a better awareness for community involvement at our college soccer events in the fall.”
