Brooke Thomas may be just a Sophomore but she plays softball just like a seasoned veteran. This season Thomas has gone (17-5) on the mound for the Union Bulldogs. The Huntingdon native has become the teams ace in just one year. And that one year of experience was all she needed to succeed. “Last year I was really young so I didn’t know what to expect,” Thomas said. “This year I know what to expect and what I need to do. It’s a lot tougher coming from high school to college so with that one year of college experience it’s defiantly made it easier.” “It’s awesome seeing the girls grow as players,” Head Coach Heather Hall said. “Brooke has worked very hard and put everything into it and is a great team player.” Thomas has been playing since she was 5 and has loved it ever since. “It’s just always been fun,” Thomas said. “You know when little kids always go out and play when they are young and if they don’t like it then they stop playing. If they do like it then they keep playing and that’s what Ive done.” While at Huntingdon High School Thomas won 3 District Titles, had and ERA of 0.36 and was named Pitcher of the Year in 2008. This past week in Union’s series with Bethel, Thomas threw her first no-hitter in college. “I’m just thinking about it pitch by pitch when I go out there. And if they get a hit then I just rely on my defense for help,” Thomas said. Every time she steps on the mound she knows and believes that she can and will win. “You always want to do good when you play,” Thomas said. “But if you go out there with a negative mindset then it’s just not going to work for you.” Even though she’s playing better than she ever has before, Brooke knows she can improve her game and can rely on a great team to back her up. “I think everyone can always play better,” Thomas said. “As a team this year I think were strong defensively and offensively so it’s great to have a good defense when I’m pitching.”
