Hancock County man charged with murder
BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) – Murder charges are being filed against a Hancock County man is accused of shooting another man before engaging in a standoff with authorities Tuesday night.
Sheriff’s County Chief Deputy Don Bass says 55-year-old Gary Topham is being held in the death of Bruce Necaise. Bass says Necaise died overnight at USA Medical Center in Mobile, Ala.
Bass says Topham and Neciase lived together at the Deer Wood Road property where the incident occurred. Authorities are still trying to piece together what exactly what led to the violence, but Bass says investigators believe the shooting occurred during an argument.
Investigators say Topham fired numerous shots at them as he holed up in a barn. Topham surrendered after deputies fired tear gas into the structure.
Bass says the investigation is continuing.
