Educator of the Week: Stephen Price

It’s time to meet our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

This week’s nominee is Stephen Price, Band Director at South Gibson County High School. This is Price’s 20th year directing band.

Price says his favorite part is the reactions from the students performing.

“Watching that joy of performing in front of people, the feedback of the people when they cheer for them. That’s really what makes it worthwhile,” Price said.

Price was inspired to be a director from his high school band director.

“It was my Band Director Mr. Eric Williams when I was in high school. He made it fun. We worked hard but it never seemed like work just because he was always having fun, laughing. And I try to be the same way as him,” Price said.

Some challenges have been the pressures of doing well.

“I really want the students to succeed. And when I don’t put them in that place to succeed, I am hard on myself when I do that,” Price said.

Price also talks about his love of music.

“It’s a chance for me to not only perform good music but to listen to good music. I love hearing the band play just for myself, hearing that good music, the cords, the melodies. It really makes my day everyday,” Price said.

Price is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
