Educator of the Week: Megan Taylor

It’s time to meet our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Megan Taylor is a 2nd grade English and Language Arts teacher at McKenzie Elementary School in McKenzie.

Taylor has been teaching for 14 years, with nine of those years being her teaching 1st grade.

Taylor stated that she does her best to build relationships with the students and spark that joy for learning.

“I just love being around children and they bring me joy,” Taylor said.

Taylor always had the mindset to become a teacher since she was seven years old.

Taylor said that her aunt, who was a teacher at her church as a child, played a major part in her wanting to be a teacher, as well as teachers in the public school system.

“So many public teachers that I’ve had that I just look up to,” Taylor said. “I wouldn’t be who I am today because of them, but I love teaching. It’s part of my core.”

Furthermore, Taylor doesn’t want the curriculum to be the primary thing that the students remember about her. She would much more rather for the kids to know that she will always be there for them, even when they move on to another grade.

Taylor even gets creative to make the environment fun for her and the kids.

“A fun song that’s popular right now, we’ll get up and we’ll do some movement while we spell and read words. We love to get up and move. Kinesthetic learning is the best,” said Taylor.

Taylor is ecstatic about receiving Educator of the Week.

“I feel shocked and very thankful for it. Blessed,” Taylor said.

She is very thankful for her peers that she works with, and said that they make it easy to come to work every day.

Taylor is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
