Educator of the Week: Taylor Caldwell

It’s time to meet our Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Taylor Caldwell is a third grade math and science teacher at Beaver Elementary School in Henderson County.

Caldwell says she is in her 10th year.

“I’ve taught third grade math and science for three years. I’ve taught anywhere between third and sixth grade science, social studies, math,” Caldwell said.

Caldwell says her favorite part of teaching is being around the kids, being there for them, and seeing them grow.

She shared that her inspiration for teaching comes from her own third grade teacher.

“My third grade teacher inspired me to become a teacher. She was there for me and, makes me emotional. Her name was Ms. Coleman. And she was one of my favorite teachers. She inspired me,” Caldwell said.

Caldwell’s favorite subject is math. She shared how she makes her teaching unique to her kids.

“We do a lot of singing the multiplications, whatever number we are on that week. Country rap, doesn’t matter. We’ll be singing,” Caldwell said.

She says that she wants her students to take away a few different things.

“First off, to treat others with kindness and respect. That’s my number one goal. And then, obviously, to learn their third grade math standards and science standards,” Caldwell said.

Caldwell says she is thankful, honored and excited for the award.

She also thanked the Henderson County school district for the guidance and wisdom she has received.

Caldwell is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
