Educator of the Week: Brenda Woods

It’s time now to recognize this week’s Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Brenda Woods is a 1st grade teacher at Bargerton Elementary School.

Her favorite thing about teaching is working with the children and seeing the ‘aha!’ moments when they catch on to something.

Woods first felt called to teach when her children were younger.

“I wanted to be at the school with them, so I went to school to become a teacher and been here ever since,” Woods said.

Woods has now been an educator for around thirteen years.

When asked about any hopes for her students, Woods shared multiple:

“I hope they enjoy their day here. I hope they know that they’re loved, and I hope that we can learn and grow together during that process.”

One of the ways Woods makes the classroom more enjoyable is through her lesson plans.

“I love to use hands-on activities, just make the lesson fun so they’re engaged more often,” she said.

For future educators, Woods shared some words of encouragement.

“Never lose focus that you’re impacting the life of a child,” she said. “For them to realize that they’re cared about, to me, is the most important and, if they know that you care about them, they’re going to strive to do their best and learn.”

Woods is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
