Educator of the Week: Casey Hassell

It’s time now to recognize this week’s Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Casey Hassell is a 4th grade teacher at Milan Elementary School.

Hassell shares that his favorite thing about teaching is enjoying the day with his students and helping them grow and have fun.

Hassell decided to become a teacher because he has always had a passion for helping others, and he wants to make a difference in students’ lives.

Hassell also shares that he was inspired to pursue a career in education by teachers he had during his childhood.

“I had several teachers throughout my, my school years that influenced me to be a teacher. Specifically, my third grade teacher at Yorkville Elementary,” Hassell said.

Hassell then mentions the hopes he has for his students.

“I hope that they remember the fun times that we have and a little piece of the learning throughout the year, but I really hope that they’ve grown to be better people throughout the year,” he said.

Hassell is about to finish his 16th year of teaching.

He states that one of the challenges he faces as a teacher is the constant desire to go above and beyond.

Hassell mentions that there’s a constant desire to be better, which can be tiring.

Hassell then goes on to speak about the importance of connecting with students.

“Build those relationships to know that there is someone that cares in the world for them other than just family.”

Hassell expresses that he is very grateful for his nomination.

“This has made my week, made my year, and it’s really awesome. Thank you so much.”

Hassell is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
