Educator of the Week: Stacye Fisher

It’s time now to recognize this week’s Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Stacye Fisher is a Kindergarten through 2nd grade reading interventionist at Martin Primary School.

She shares her favorite part of being an educator.

“My favorite part is developing the relationships I have with my students,” Fisher said. “I want them to know that I love them and that, when they come into my classroom, we’re gonna have fun but, at the same time, we’re gonna learn and I want them to feel safe and secure around me.”

Fisher has always loved children and used to babysit kids in her neighborhood. That desire to help children drove her to become an educator.

“The main thing I want them to get out of my class is knowing that they can do it,” she said. “Things are going to be hard and they are going to struggle sometimes in reading, but if they keep pushing themselves and that they believe in themselves most importantly, that they can do it.”

For future educators, Fisher spoke on the importance of relationships.

“Have a good relationship, not only with your students, but with your [students’] parents. It’s very, very important to have that strong relationship with parents too so you can communicate about your student’s needs or positive things that are happening in the classroom.”

Fisher has been teaching for 37 years and was surprised by her nomination.

“I’m just so excited! I’m shocked. I love what I do. Like I said, I’ve been doing this for 37 years, so I’ve been in the classroom for a long, long time, and I just love to see the joy of the children learning and you can just see the light bulb coming on in their brain, they’ve finally gotten it, and that right there is the biggest thrill of all.”

Fisher is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
