Educator of the Week: Kelly Stack

It’s time now to recognize this week’s Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.

Kelly Stack is a 5th grade teacher at Pope Elementary School in Jackson.

This is her fourteenth year in the role.

“My favorite part about teaching would be building relationships with the students from year to year that come into my classroom,” Stack said.

Stack became a teacher because she wants to make an impact on students as they progress through life.

She was also motivated by a teacher from her childhood.

“I had a fifth grade teacher at Jackson Christian where I went to elementary school that inspired me,” Stack shared.

Now, Stack has her own fifth grade students to inspire.

“I hope the students, when they leave my classroom, feel loved, feel challenged, and feel supported on whatever they choose to do as they move throughout life,” she said.

Stack shares that one of the biggest challenges about teaching is being unable to solve all of the students problems.

She wants them to know that they always have somebody supporting them.

“One of the things I start with at the beginning is letting them know that I care, that I am their teacher, but that I care about them and that they truly know that and trust that from me.”

Stack then shares a word of advice for any future educators.

“My biggest advice would be to just take the time to get to know the students on a deeper level. Let them know that you are there for them no matter what comes their way. Building rapport with your students is a game changer.”

Stack is surprised and grateful for her nomination.

“I’m shocked!” she exclaimed. “I’m so excited. I had no idea, so very honored, very excited.”

Stack is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
