FURTHER COVERAGE:

DRESDEN, Tenn. — A trial regarding the 2011 murder of a West Tennessee woman begins this week.

Jury selection began Tuesday morning in the David Swift trial case. This comes after a trial date and location change. The trial location has been moved to Weakley County.

On October 30, 2011, Karen Swift was reported missing. This came three weeks after she filed for divorce from David. Her body was later discovered by hunters near a Dyersburg cemetery.

Investigators believed David was involved with the disappearance of Karen.

More than a decade later, David was charged and he pled not guilty to first degree murder following his indictment in August of 2022.

A change of venue request was granted moving the trial to the Weakley County Courthouse on 116 West Main Street in Dresden, about 50 miles away from where Karen was found.

After jury selections, the trial of the State of Tennessee vs. David Swift will begin in the circuit courtroom. It is also expected that the trial will last approximately two weeks.

According to a release, the jury has been chosen and the judge wanted to begin opening arguments Tuesday afternoon.
