Inmate found hiding in basement after escaping hospital

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — An inmate is back in custody after escaping from a hospital.

According to Henderson County Sheriff Brian Duke, on Tuesday, 23-year-old Rondarius Mangium was transported by a correctional officer from the Henderson County jail to the Henderson County Community Hospital in Lexington.

Sheriff Duke says Mangium escaped from the hospital, and the Sheriff’s Department took to social media to alert residents to be on the lookout.

According to Sheriff Duke, Mangium broke into a nearby State Farm office and was located in the building’s basement by Lexington Police approximately 15 minutes after his escape.

Records available online indicate Mangium was returned to the Henderson County jail, and will likely face additional charges.

The Sheriff’s Department also shared a list of Mangium’s previous charges, which include assault, theft, vandalism and more.
