Series of alleged break-ins leaves one family in fear

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Christie Haley says that she and her family have been in fear since they realized an intruder has been breaking into their home.

On Thursday, June 27, Hayley and her husband were preparing to go to the gym. She says when they came home, her husband noticed a set of keys on their dresser that did not belong to them.

“All the stuff that’s been moved, all the things that have disappeared, someone has definitely come into our home. The first thing we did was check the keys on the keyring to make sure it didn’t fit our house, which it didn’t. Then, we immediately called the police,” said Haley.

Hayley said the Lexington Police Department took her statement, but she hasn’t heard from them since.

She said the first time they experienced this intruder was back in 2022 at a different home in Carroll County.

“My door was cracked and the way my bedroom was set, I can see directly into my kitchen and I saw a man at my table rummaging through my purse,” said Haley.

She says that she had nowhere to go, but luckily she had her phone where she could call the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

She says that police were able to trace footprints off into the woods, but were unable to find any other evidence.

“Money was taken, and of course, all of my serenity and peace,” said Haley.

“Fast forward a couple of months, I’m gone and my daughter, who was 19 at the time, was walking outside to leave. It was about 7:00 at night and there was a man in her car,” said Haley.

Hayley says that’s when called her neighbor, who caught the intruder on their spotlight, but he unfortunately got away.

Over a period of time, items such as clothing, blow-dryers and their outdoor sign has been missing or taken and moved into another place in the home.

Hayley also stated that when she was about to shower, she noticed bite marks in her soap.

Being that she and her husband are the only ones that live in the home, she knew neither of them did it.

“We need a home to move to because my husband had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago from all the stress. We have to get out of this house,” said Haley.

Hayley says she and her husband are now looking at property options for a news place to live.
