Man, woman caught on camera stealing from local donation drop box

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Public Information Officer, Stephen Sutton, told us that on June 26, 27 and 30, two individuals were caught on Crockett Mission’s surveillance camera removing items from the store’s donation drop box.

“The Crockett Mission exists to serve those who are in need in our community. The individuals at the dropbox were not in need. They came to the right place for help, but it was unfortunately the wrong process,” said Sutton.

He said the Crockett Mission has been a great help to the citizens of Crockett County for over 14 years.

“I estimate that they have probably given back to our citizens somewhere between half a million to a million dollars. To those who are in need, those who are fighting cancer, those who fall on hard times or houses have caught on fire. They’ve clothed children in difficult circumstances and foster situations. They’re just an incredible blessing to our citizens,” said Sutton.

Sutton, along with Crockett Mission, wanted the people to know that this was made public in case people were wondering about the items.

“People have donations and there’s a public website where there’s an auction for those items. People may have been looking for those items and didn’t see them, and they just wanted the people to know that nothing unusual had gone on with the staff here, but rather that someone had stolen them out of the bin,” said Sutton.

Sutton said that there is a male and a female involved in the theft of these items.

“Once those individuals are identified, they will be charged by the Maury City Police Department. The Maury City Police Chief, Allan Gililand, is investigating this case. They have received multiple leads regarding the identities of the individuals and are currently investigating those leads to determine who’s responsible,” said Sutton.

As of this afternoon, according to Sutton, the male suspect has been arrested.

If you have any leads on the female suspect, please contact the Maury City Police Department at 731-656-2502.
