Man charged with arson, vandalism after weekend house fire

BEECH BLUFF, Tenn. — A West Tennessee man has been charged with arson and vandalism.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, 38-year-old Caleb Avery, of Gibson County, was arrested Sunday evening in Henderson County.

A press release states on July 7, TBI agents joined the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office and Fire Department in investigating a suspicious house fire in the 300 block of Cotton Grove Road in the Beech Bluff community.

Upon arrival, the release states authorities spoke with Avery, who said he was living on the property in a tent. Agents say this information was confirmed with the property owner.

According to the TBI, Avery admitted to intentionally setting the house on fire.

The release says Avery has since been charged with arson and vandalism over $1,000, and currently remains in custody in the Henderson County jail on a $5,000 bond.
