Corks and Crowns fundraiser to return for 2nd year

JACKSON, Tenn. — An annual event is returning to the Hub City in a few weeks.

The Corks and Crowns event is a wonderful scholarship fundraiser that is returning for its second year in a row. We spoke with Beth Murley, the event’s coordinator, to remind us what this special evening will entail.

“We are having it on Saturday, August 17, from 5 – 8 pm. It is a black tie elegant event. This year we are going to be at the Civic Center. It is a bourbon and wine tasting event from a collection of over 100 bottles of wines and rare bourbons,” Murley said.

According to Murley, last year was a very big success and many people enjoyed it. However, she says this year is going to be even better.

“Last year was really, really great. We had about 150 in attendance. This year we are expecting more and we would love to have a large crowd,” she said.

If you went last year and had a great time, you expect even more rare bottles on the shelves to try out.

“We have Weller Single Barrel, Willett Purple Top an 11- year old bottle, and Eagle Rare 17,” Murley said.

As mentioned, this is more than just a fun night out. This event raises money for a great cause.  She said there is a purpose behind the night.

“We are a non-profit organization that’s based all across the state of Tennessee. We’re a service oriented scholarship program seeking to empower young women through education and opportunities, providing over $80,000 in scholarships,” said Murley.

The event is only for those 21 years of age and older. The first 50 people to buy tickets online will receive a souvenir glass.
