Through a partnership that the Star Center has with a company called Alliance for Physical Therapy Quality and Innovation, or APTQI, the center arranged a visit with Congressman David Kustoff.

The visit is to promote a bipartisan bill being proposed on Capitol Hill called The Safe Act. Part of the act is meant to prevent falls among elderly Americans.

Experts say implementing fall prevention screenings annually would have a major impact.

“By the year 2030 it is estimated that 52 million Americans will suffer a fall. Of which 12 million will have an injury. By then that cost could be upwards of 50 billion dollars to the John Q taxpayer, and we are looking to prevent that,” explained Ross Maldonado, physical therapist and partner with Star Physical Therapy.

Tuesday Congressman Kustoff was able to see tests and evaluations in action, and how physical therapists are able to make a difference in the lives of our elderly community.
