Freshmen at FHU get settled in for college life

HENDERSON, Tenn.—College can sometimes be overwhelming, but for this school, it’s the beginning of something new and exciting.

Students and parents were full of emotions during the official move-in-day at Freed-Hardeman University.

You could feel the excitement on campus as staff and family members helped the in-coming freshmen get settled in their new home.

One family in particular, the Bates, are alumni who are ecstatic to see their first born Nolan follow in their footsteps.

“I know how special it was for us during our time here and I’m just anxious for him to have his own experience and I just hope it’s as magical, memorable and life warming as it was for us,” said Mandy Bates, Nolan’s mom.

“It’s almost like coming home. Friends and family up and down the hallway. It’s great. And that’s the first tear that I’ve shed all day,” said John Bates, Nolan’s dad.

Nolan said college life will be a big change for him because he’s been home schooled for several years but he’s ready to see what the school year brings.

“Develop some friendships and make new connections and have a bunch of fun with people here,” said Nolan Bates, FHU freshman.

Fraternal twins, Ella and Emma Noles told us that everyone at Freed has welcomed them with open arms.

“I’ve kind of always grown up in Henderson, but being here is different. A good different. Like, I’m going to meet so many new people, said Emma Noles, FHU freshman.

They told us that the excitement to start school outweighs any nerves they may have.

“I’m a little nervous because this is very different. But, I’m overall super excited. I’m mostly excited about meeting new people and like having new friends and stuff, just something new,” said Ella Noles, FHU freshman.

To the class of 2028, welcome home!

Freed-Hardeman University will have events all week for freshmen to connect and get to know one another.
