Madison County Parks shares plans for new playground

JACKSON, Tenn. — A new playground is coming to Madison County.

It will be located at Fred Young Jr. Park on highway 45 south. The playground is tentatively scheduled for install by September 10.

The county hopes to have a ribbon cutting soon after the installation. Officials say it’s a new state of the art playground that’s ADA accessible.

The Madison County Parks Department is also applying for an opioid grant to hopefully get a sensory playground.

It would bring in playground equipment that is designed for those who may have had birth defects in the womb from parents who were addicted to opioids.

“That is the focus of that opioid grant is to use that money to benefit the community. We’ve narrowed the focus down from different things like a challenge course and regular playgrounds to something very unusual and a population that we don’t serve. And if we can fill that niche with a sensory playground we’re going to try that,” said Matthew Martin, executive director for Madison County Parks and Recreation.

Martin says they would look at putting the sensory playground at Leeper Lane.

However, they still have to apply for the grant and there’s no guarantee they will get it.
