Free dental health services for children offered through KCHD program

Ages 4 to 21 can receive several services including education, screenings, sealants and fluoride varnish, according to the Knox County Health Department.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Knox County Health Department announced its School-Based Dental Program is offering free dental services for children and young adults throughout June.

Ages 4 to 21 can receive several services at the Knox County Schools Welcome Center including education, screenings, sealants and fluoride varnish.

“Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in childhood, yet it is largely a preventable disease,” Sarah Naill, dental hygienist with KCHD’s School-Based Dental Program, said. “Attending free events like this is an easy step to ensure a healthy smile for children.”

About 20% of children ages 5 to 11 have at least one untreated tooth decay, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
