Hometown Spotlight: Sevier County

For many people across East Tennessee, Sevier County is the place to spend spring break.

SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — Sevier County is the spring break capitol for many people across East Tennessee, featuring plenty of fun locations across Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville.

The county has grown to more than 99,000 people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Its largest city is Sevierville, but the county also includes attractions like Dollywood and The Island in Pigeon Forge.

Nestled in Gatlinburg is also Rocky Top Sports World, an indoor and outdoor multi-sports complex. The complex spans 80 acres and gives people a chance to play sports like basketball, volleyball, football, soccer and almost anything in between.

It can also host school tournaments.

Sevier County also features a host of free options for people looking to enjoy East Tennessee while also saving some money. They can visit The Island to enjoy music or a water show. The Christmas Place also features free music.

The heart of Sevierville also has a Dolly Parton statue sitting outside of the courthouse. It was created by Jim Gray, a sculptor, and unveiled in 1987 — soon after Dollywood opened.

With so many opportunities to have fun, Sevier County attracts plenty of tourism and the Tennessee Department of Tourism said people could save money while enjoying the county to the fullest.

Just down the road from downtown Sevierville is also the Smoky Mountain Deer Farm and Exotic Petting Zoo. The area features 140 acres of cuteness, giving people a chance to spend time with bunnies, mini-horses and plenty of other animals.

In downtown Sevierville, a new business is also focused on family fun. The Pines Theatre originally opened in 1944, before reopening in December 2022. It also has a history involving Dolly Parton.

She is native to Sevier County and helped organize transformative initiatives across East Tennessee. Her theme park, Dollywood, recently opened for the season too, with many new experiences available there.

The Track in Pigeon Forge also gives families a chance to have some fun on four wheels with go-kart tracks, bumper cars and much more.

Sevier County is also nestled near the Great Smoky Mountains, giving campers and RVers a chance to explore the great outdoors. Many families routinely make Sevier County a vacation spot during spring break.
