10News talks to voters ahead of Thursday's presidential debate

Many voters said they were concerned about inflation, Donald Trump's and President Joe Biden's ages, and the border.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — 10News went to Market Square Thursday to ask local voters what their biggest concerns were ahead of the presidential debate.  Inflation, the border, and the age and temperament of both candidates were top concerns.

Many people said they either did not want to be on camera or did not want their names made public.

"I'm concerned that we choose someone who is mentally and emotionally stable," one voter said. "And emotionally mature. Competent."

Inflation and housing prices were also a key issue on the ballot.

"I know it's been a struggle for myself," another voter said. "I'm a single dad and I have a child, and with inflation, it's been hard."

Another voter chimed in on prices soaring.

"I just feel bad that I have a stepdaughter, and she has a degree, and she's a hard worker and can't afford a house," the voter said.

Most people said they wanted to take care of their kids and make a good living. Another voter said that while inflation was important to him, the U.S. border with Mexico was his biggest concern.

"For me, in this country right now, the crime and the border are big concerns," he said.

Almost everyone WBIR spoke to mentioned the ages of both candidates as well. President Joe Biden is 81 years old, and Donald Trump is 78 years old.

"I'm in my mid-50s and I can't relate to them," one voter said.

She said she thinks young voters will struggle with voting the most because of the candidates' ages.

Most of the people we talked to on Market Square said they planned to watch the two candidates debate Thursday night. CNN is hosting the faceoff tonight between Trump and Biden at 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
