Dangerous Heat Continues in the Southern Plains; Dry Conditions and Gusty Winds Bringing Fire Weather to the Great Basin

The ongoing heat wave with high temperatures in the upper 90s and triple digits will remain over the Southern Plains into this weekend and the western Gulf Coast into Friday, likely breaking dozens of additional daily records. Expect breezier southwest winds across northern Arizona on Friday with isolated to scattered shower and thunderstorm chances. Much of Friday's storm activity will likely be confined towards the north and east.
Monsoon moisture is increasing across the area, raising the potential for flash flooding due to heavy rainfall from thunderstorms. The heaviest rain expected this afternoon.
