Francine Moving North Across Mississippi Bringing Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds and a Few Tornadoes

Francine will slowly move north across Mississippi today into Friday. Francine will continue to bring heavy rainfall and the risk of flash and urban flooding, along with river flooding, across portions of the Lower Mississippi Valley, Tennessee Valley, and the Southeast. Eligibility

  • College students entering their junior or senior year, or graduate students. Recent graduates will also be considered.
  • Those who demonstrate strong interest in a National Weather Service career.
  • Successful applicants will be subject to mandatory security and background checks.

Expectations/Outcomes

  • Gain familiarity with the process for generating routine NWS forecasts.
  • Experience and assist with real-time severe weather operations.
  • Participate in office outreach activities. NWS Flagstaff summer volunteers may have the opportunity to visit neighboring NWS offices in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and/or Tucson as well.

Schedule

  • The program will last for approximately 8-12 weeks in a window from mid-June through mid-August.
  • 2-3 shifts per week, approximately 10 hours per week. Shifts will mostly be during weekdays, but some weekend shifts may be accommodated.
