FAQs - Web Hosting Plans

Technical and General Questions

Anytime a browser calls for a PHP webpage, the server allocates certain resources – usually RAM memory and a PHP thread. It’s blocked until the task is completed and the data are returned to a browser. Well-optimized apps will allocate a PHP thread for tens to hundreds of miliseconds. Unoptimized apps can allocate it for a few seconds or more.

It means the NoLimit web hosting service can serve up to 25 requests simultaneously. If a website is well optimized and loads in 250ms, you can have a hundred visitors each second with no problem. Having more visitors doesn’t mean they’re rejected – their requests are queued.

This was a really simple example, in a real environment there are many technologies that help a webserver to run more fluently and serve your visitors. There are proxy servers, cache files, local caches, and many more, so a high percentage of requests can be served without even reaching a web server.

The Availability Guarantee is a percentage of monthly availability that includes a reserve associated with, for example, an unexpected technical problem that requires technician intervention (such as a server restart). For the NoLimit Extra service, for example, it is 99.99%, which corresponds to the maximum allowed unavailability of 4 minutes and 22 seconds per month.

If we have a problem provided by a certain group of customers (for example on 1 physical server), the technicians send notifications to our customers via our internal system, which also indicates the exact start, end of the problem, and what happened. This email also contains the extent of the problem. Just reply to this email and claim availability.

The NoLimit Extra availability guarantee applies to all outages caused by our software, hardware, infrastructure, and infrastructure of our service providers, which lead to complete unavailability of the service.

The availability guarantee does not cover problems caused by a third party. For example, if a script on a web hosting service uses a third-party API and the unavailability of that API causes the site to malfunction.

Yes, this is one group of services that differ in parameters. If you upgrade your plan, you will be issued a supplementary request for payment. After the payment, the parameters will be increased and if it is linked to other services (such as daily backup), then they will be active from the upcoming day.

If you downgrade your plan, it is only possible to do from the next billing period. In the customer administration, you deactivate the Extra and / or activate the LowCost plan and the next payment request will no longer contain it. If the request for payment already exists, it will be canceled and a new one will be issued.

Each service will be protected by our worldwide WEDOS Global network. The only condition is to use our DNS.

Basic protection eliminates known attackers and puts an obstacle in the way of suspicious traffic that only a person (captcha) or a real browser (cookie, redirect) can overcome. The goal is to eliminate mainly robots (automatic scripts).

Smart protection is more strict and targeted. For example, directories where there are files with administration, extensions, etc. are simply where we know that there is no content intended for visitors or robots, it strongly protects the network and only lets people in. This significantly eliminates the exploitation of newly discovered vulnerabilities (Zero-day exploit) and reduces the load on the web, because it does not release any robots there.

Warning: We cannot protect domains that do not use our DNS. If we detect an attack that overloads the service and restricts other customers on the same physical server, then the service will be moved to a server where there are only services without our protection.

We have a next-generation service – WMS (Webhosting Managed Server). The service provides dedicated hardware performance up to the size of the entire physical server. You can set selected web server and PHP parameters yourself. If that’s not enough, you can connect 2 WMSs. So you can run a web server with PHP and an SQL server with a database.

LowCost

Upgrade to the NoLimit web hosting plan.

Currently, there is no other way for increasing file storage space.

We make backups for all our services. These backups are used, for example, in the event of irreversible corruption of data on disk storage. For security reasons, all backups are stored separately and are handled as a whole. We can restore all web hosting services on the physical server on a specific date for which we have a backup. However, we do not provide site recovery.

You can make your own backups on a 5 GB Free WEDOS Disk, which is included in each web hosting plan. Content management systems have plugins for this. Alternatively, you can write your own PHP script, which you will call via CRON and it will perform backups via FTP, for example.

If the customer wants to get data from our backups (for example, their website), this must be done by a trained technician who is authorized to handle backups.

The LowCost plan is intended for experienced users who can optimize their scripts and solve any common problems that may occur. According to our experience and statistics, they do not need regular customer support. They will find everything essential in our knowledge base. If something is missing, they can always use our community website, where our support workers, technicians, and developers respond. In addition, there are many experienced members of the community who will help you with any questions.

Of course, LowCost services are provided with technical support, which solves technical problems, and a sales department, where we solve, for example, invoicing problems. Just write to us via the contact form.

If there is no other problem connected to the situation, and you’re not limiting other customers on the same server, you will first receive an e-mail notification. You can reply to this email and, if necessary, ask a technician for the necessary time to resolve the issue. If the situation is not resolved within a few days, or we do not receive a response, the technicians will send another call for correction by e-mail, where there is already a notification that there is a risk of shutting down the service. If even this does not solve the situation, then the service is limited or switched off.

For LowCost customers, we assume that they can download a suitable installation package, upload it via FTP, set up a database, go through the installation correctly and configure everything out themselves. In addition, most of them may prefer a different version than what we currently have.

Aliases for creating multiple websites are not an ideal solution. In addition, they require that our specific directory structure be used, which often requires a number of modifications to .htaccess and sometimes to the script itself. Most experienced webmasters are used to uploading everything directly to the /www folder. Aliases weren’t used frequently, according to our statistics. Therefore, we removed them from the LowCost service, and thus we could reduce its price.
