Lately, I've been fascinated by the so-called "comeback" of old-school mall brands. As I'm sure you've noticed, all eyes are on J.Crew now that the brand has a fresh new look under Olympia Gayot, the head of women's design. While I wouldn't have thought to shop at the retailer before, I've found myself popping onto the site in recent months to see what's cool and new. The same is true with Banana Republic, another mall brand that's been surprising me with its chic and elevated selection lately. It's safe to say that brands like these have earned a top spot in my list of sites to check out during my daily market scans to see what's cool.

On my latest visit to J.Crew, Banana Republic, and another affordable favorite, Mango, I spotted a few common themes throughout the new-arrivals sections—seven trendier items, to be exact. While each of these retailers leans more classic, they all seem to be agreeing on these hot-ticket items for winter 2022. Ahead, discover what's trending across these retailers and see how each brand is doing its version.

1. Party-Ready Sequins

Sequins are back in full force—and just in time for event season. Try a minimalist silhouette like a sleek maxi skirt or spaghetti-strap tank that will really shine.

2. Pops of Pink

2022's It color, vivid fuchsia, is still going strong. The best (and easiest IMO) way to style it? Adding in one pink item for a bright pop of color.

3. Metallic Accessories

Metallic accessories are winning winter 2022, period. Whether it's a silver bag or pointed-toe slingbacks, they add such a cool '80s vibe to any everyday ensemble.

4. Shearling-Lined Jackets

Shearling outerwear has really surged in recent seasons but now the version du jour are shearling-lined jackets that feature the fuzzy texture on the interior of the coat and leather (or faux leather) exteriors.

5. Fun-Loving Feather Trim

Holiday party season always brings out the most OTT elements and right now, that means fluffy feathers. They're trimming hemlines and cuffs everywhere we look and one thing's clear: they're as fun to wear as they are compliment-worthy.

6. Fair Isle Sweaters

Get into winter's surging aesthetic, the après ski look, via one of these ultra-cozy fair isle knits.

7. Soft Bucket Totes

This is a PSA to all the commuters out there: yes, chic work totes exist and this season they're coming in one of these slouchy bucket tote shapes that are as minimal as they are functional.
