Trip Report

Cowiche Canyon Preserve — Saturday, Jun. 15, 2024

Central Washington

The highlights in the upper areas are the wealth of purple sage (photo 1), dusty maidens (photo 2), sagebrush mariposa lilies (photo 3), a few species of wild buckwheats. There are many bushes and trees that I'm unfamiliar with blooming in the canyon and lots of Richardson's (I think) penstemon (photo 4). The trails are all in great shape. We saw no snakes on this cool day.

Jim - the shrub with white blossoms blooming throughout the canyon right now is Lewis' mock-orange (Philadelphus lewisii). There is still some Wood's Rose in bloom as well as a big stand of what I'm pretty sure is Poison Hemlock at the west end. The Western White Clematis is also in bloom. The penstemon is Showy Penstemon (Penstemon speciosus). Nice photos as usual.
