About the Business
Marutama ramen's Creamy Chicken broth (toripai tan) is made with NO MSG and NO Imitation flavours. Best quality of this soup is from its 100% pure chicken broth prepared with a detailed cooking process, which every Marutama ramen stores prepares daily from every early morning. Like food we want to serve to all our children, we also homemade our thinned and wavy noodles that suit perfectly with the creamy broth. It is especially popular among kids because kids are used to only eat natural ingredient foods. Our homemade noodles are prepared daily with no preservatives. Marutama ramen's it's creamy, aromatic and mouth-watering flavor that has a hint of seaweed flavor comes from the AOSA, which is exported directly from Japan. AOSA is sea lettuce that is packed with protein, fiber, a variety of vitamins and minerals. It's elegant flavor suits perfectly with MARUTAMA RA-MEN's dedicated creamy chicken broth. Many customers enjoy our homemade beautifully boiled and marinated AJITAMA (soft boiled egg). Ajitama brings a savory taste to our ramen. It's freshly prepared and marinated every day onsite and with its creamy golden yolk makes it even more irresistible. MARUTAMA RA-MEN's CHA-SHU is delicately braised by many hours and marinated with our special soy base. It's very tender, juicy and packed with flavorful pork and soy umami. Above all, we want to deliver, just like our customers, Marutama ramen truly cares for the quality and authenticity flavor that everyone can safely enjoy.

Nice quaint place. I ordered the tamago ramen. It was my first time having ramen with a chicken based broth and my first time having this soft type of seaweed. It has a great comfort food feeling to it and it was plenty filling. The egg was also perfectly cooked and I was glad they gave a full egg. Great balance of price, flavor, and comfort. The staff were attentive and checked in on us a few times to make sure things were going well.

Visiting from LA and having been all over, this Ramen place is just ok. Like not terrible but not the best. Just average to fill you up if you're hungry.
Also the portioning on the Ramen is very weird for the pricing. It's like 95% noodle and just the broth. Anyway wouldn't come back again.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jan 2, 2022
Small, homey ramen shop!
The tomago ramen is the most famous and the egg is worth it. The broth is unique -- chicken based not pork based. A good bowl of ramen for a cold night. The other bowls are just more variation of the tomago ramen -- many more
No reservation; have to wait in person!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Oct 9, 2021
Authentic ramen. Delicious. Fast.
I am from out of province so I had a list of places I wanted to est at. Out of all the ramen places this place stood out. I only had time for 1 ramen restaurant. And I'm glad I ended up here.
Ramen was great. The broth was rich and flavourful but not heavy at the same time. Toppings were generous and that egg was to die for!!! I loved how they give you an assortment of toppings, the garlic topping elevated my ramen so much!
I would of preferred my noodles thicker. But these freshly made thin noodles tasted so good I ordered an extra refill!
Yup my yelp tip is for just $2.50 get a noodles refill. Such a great deal and it beats getting a the double portion ramen which just gives you a 2 slices of meat for $4 more. Its hard to notice on the menu but they have different names for different sized bowls. So get the basic bowls bc all they do is add an egg or 2 pieces of meat which really isn't worth it. Order it on the side.
There was a line. But it moved fast as most people just ate their food and left. We were in and out within an hour on a busy Friday night. Overall I been to other ramen places in van before but this was one of my faves so far!Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Sep 20, 2021
One day I was walking from downtown to visit English Bay with my darling. It was about the lunch time on my way in West End and I felt like trying any good ramen in town. I found this restaurant has very good rating so I queues outside the restaurant though I felt like starving at that moment.
The restaurant group that runs this Raman restaurant has other different ramen restaurants like the one I've visited in the Main Street. My last experience wasn't very satisfactory but this time I saw many people were queueing so I must give it a try.
After 20min wait, we got the table and we ordered the signature Shoyu ramen and Aka Ramen. Both ramen were having the same signature chicken soup as the base. Aka has additional grounded nuts and chilli that further enriched the taste. The chicken soup was creamy and tasty that you want to drink it all after you finished the ramen. The pork slides were nicely done without overcooked. By adding the lemon juice to the Raman it gave a very fresh citrus note to the spicy flavour. I was regret that I didn't order the kaedama.
Regarding the environment and service, the servers were friendly and attentive. They served fast and maintained a very clean environment with sufficient distance between the tables.
I believe this restaurant might be the best of breed amongst the peers in the same group.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Rob G.Bellevue, United States9173Dec 23, 2023
Great Ra-men. Noodles are chewy and they do not over do the seaweed flavor, which may be authentic, but not something I got used too.

Stop by for a quick lunch. Staff was wonderful and super nice. The ramen was delicious. The chicken broth was so good. We order a curry one which had a great taste to it and a classic tamago one. The noodle was cooked perfectly and the egg was so yummy. The cha shu was tender. They had a dashi tamago that was so good as well. I would definitely go back the next time i visit

Out of all the Marutama locations this is the first in town and still the best! Minor annoyances include no gyozas available (!) and a surcharge for fried garlic since June 2022. Bummer. Also if you happen to have a big appetite or just plain ol' hungry one bowl is NOT going to satisfy you as it's really more like a snack size serving. But the tamago ramen keeps us coming back again and again ^_^
