Good for a quick lunch. Great value on the lunch bento. Lots of food for a fair price. Served edamame included to start. Also came with barley rice, green tea. Fast service and attentive staff. Not too busy so fairly quiet. Parking in the back so no hunting around. Would check it out again.

So I heard from a friend that this was a great place to have sushi. I was so disappointed with the quality. The ikura hand roll didn't taste fresh the roe didn't have pop when you took a bite. Also we ordered the lion king and everything in the roll was lacking, taste, texture. Finally the thing that I found weird was the lack of concern from the staff on why we were leaving two minutes after receiving our food and only eating a few bites. I never have to return here and I will be having a conversation with my friend who suggested this place.

Very clean and pleasant restaurant with nice spacing between tables and booths.service was prompt and free edamame was served. I went with the bento lunch of miso soup, salad, beef teriyaki, tempura and rice. The miso soup was HOT and very tasty; perfect miso and dashi combo. It was a very big bowl with two small tofu cubes. I got full on the soup. Beef was cut just right but think next time I'l ask for the teriyaki sauce on the side and a bit more rice. The price was GREAT; total bill was $16!!

Amazing service and food! I called ahead for a party of 8 for my baby brother's 50th birthday! Yikes, if he's old then I'm older!
The staff here bent over backwards to make his bday special! So attentive and kind, they even gave us free desserts at the end of dinner. A deep fried Mochi ice cream thing and green tea ice cream.
We ended getting lots of Sapporos and bottles of wine. The good was delicious. My vegetarian friend enjoyed the vegetarian bento box. My folks got teriyaki beef and salmon Bento boxes. My brother and I ordered the 7 piece chefs choice nigiri plus a bunch of specialty rolls.
We were there a while since everyone had got my brother presents which was super nice. We had the best time and will definitely return again and again.Helpful 6Thanks 1Love this 7Oh no 0 - Wendy R.CA, United States033Oct 23, 2023Updated review

We called in our order at 5:20, and they said it'd be ready for pick up in 30-35 min, so my husband was there by 5:50pm. Unfortunately, our food wasn't ready until 6:15. No big deal, but just keep in mind if you're in a time crunch or just would not rather be hanging out at the restaurant for an extra 25 minutes.
We got the chicken karaage, shiitake maki roll, go go roll, orange blossom roll, double salmon roll, sumo special roll, and a beef teriyaki bento box (with california roll and tempura).
Everything was pretty good, but the sumo special roll was fantastic. We'll definitely be getting that again! The bento box was also pretty great way to expose our toddler to a variety of new foods, and he enjoyed it. We'll probably pass on the chicken karaage because it was very soggy by the time we got it, despite taking the order home (5 min away) as soon as it was ready.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 32698139Jun 18, 2022
We were the only ones on a weekday evening here! Prices were great and very affordable for pretty good sushi! We got one of the specials that came with 15 pieces of nigiri and 2 rolls, and shared an appetizer and a beer that all came out to ~$60 before tip which is super affordable for this area and the sushi quality seems pretty fresh.
Ambiance wise, definitely isn't the fanciest place and our waiter forgot our beer and never came back to refill our waters so pretty average service. I'm curious to try their lunch and bento boxes though!Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Nov 29, 2021
Sumo Sushi does a fine job and is super welcoming!
All staff is still wearing masks and if you dine in you must wear a mask as well. There is a wide spread menu to pick from whether you are wanting nigiri or a fried roll to some tasty appetizers or a hot soup!
They have good prices for their dishes that are fresh, tasty, and full flavor! I was surprised with their karaage - it was crispy, so hot when it came out, and the dipping sauce is perfect! All of their rolls are of good size and hearty. We went for early dinner on the weekend and got miso soup, salad, and edamame with our meals. It was lovely to have the full spread for our dinner out.
If you haven't tried Sumo Sushi, I highly recommend it. They all work hard and provide excellence and if something needs to be fixed they fix it right away. Great food and great service!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Emma S.Kentfield, United States106109222Oct 26, 2022
I was catching up with a girlfriend before a dance show in Berkeley and Sumo Sushi had location going for it, so we met there and were invited to seat ourselves.
The menu was what you expect from a Japanese American restaurant. I'll admit, my friend and I were both more focused on company than food, so we selected bento boxes: the salmon teriyaki for her, chicken for myself, and had more than enough to fill our tummies for the night!
I realize the sashimi and sushi is probably where they might've had more of a chance to shine.
The portions were decent and the flavors were standard. The meal arrived nicely warmed and the salad was butter lettuce with a sesame dressing generously applied.
Knowing we needed to get to the show with time to park and find our seats, I tried to get the server's attention a good ten minutes before we needed to leave. The place gets a fair amount of traffic, since it's on San Pablo, a busy thoroughfare. With two servers on the floor, they both stayed pretty busy throughout our stay, however it did take most of that ten minutes for me to get her attention and I finally resorted to waving my arms, something I haven't stooped to in years.
The prices were reasonable and it offers a convenient location, but next time, I'll probably drive a few streets over and choose one of the restaurants on Solano instead.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Bielka J.Richmond, United States2134Jan 13, 2024
